Our Wedding

Matt and I met on a dating app. We planned to tell people that we met hiking in Europe or we met when Matt saved me from that burning building, but we never followed through. Regardless, when I first saw a picture of Matt on the dating app I thought, he seems down to Earth. I love that quality in him. Matt and I talked on the phone before we went on our first date, just to see if things would be awkward or not. We ended up talking for more than an hour! It was like when you talk to a stranger but it feels like you already knew them in another life and you just click. Matt and I went to a dive bar for karaoke night as our first date. I wasn't nervous to meet Matt, I didn't think much into our first date deeply. In my head I was just meeting a new person and I was excited to show him how to have a good time at karaoke night.Matt came into our first date 10 mins late. I was sitting in the booth, I usually would be walking around socializing, but Matt had me sitting in the booth thinking I got stood up. I remember sitting there and thinking, “Wow did I get stood up? That's a shame.” Then I saw this really tall man with long hair walk into the bar and I instantly knew that was him. I was thinking about acting like I wasn't the person he was meeting and I would just watch him walk around the bar confused because he had me thinking I got stood up. I waved instead.Matt sat down and we talked, after about 20 mins he sat next to me in the booth instead of across and trapped me in. For the first date, to have a big 6 foot 5 inch man lock me into the wall side of the booth, I was plotting my big fight defense scene in my head where I look really cool and everyone claps in the end. That did not happen. We ended up getting up and walking around outside to look at the stars, when we got back inside we sang karaoke together and he walked me to my car like a gentleman.I was never the kind of person who thought about marriage, what my wedding will look like or when it would happen. I honestly thought i was never going to get married, that I would be dramatic and when a man asks me for my hand I would run away and be the ¨one that got away¨ but when I found Matt it feels like I found my home. Matt makes me feel loved and at peace. He is my best friend and I will forever be grateful to call him my person.
